Days 11 and 12 of World Cruise

Yesterday the ship docked in Lima, Peru, our first overnight port. We got off the ship and onto the shuttle which took us to San Miguel. We were greeted by many taxi drivers eager to take the us on tours. We bumped into Frank and Philimena again and got a nice cab driver named Hennry. He took us to the district of Miraflores. He dropped us off next to a paragliding place. We went to see if I could do it but unfortunately it wasn’t windy enough so we walked down the path on the cliff to the beach below. We decided it would be fun to go swimming but the beach was very rocky. I left my shoes on because they were hiking shoes but my mom had flip flops which she didn’t want to lose so she took them off. Getting out into the water with all the rocks at our feet was easy for me but extremely painful for my mom. It was nice once we were out there though. After we were done swimming we headed back up the path. We checked if it was windy enough to paraglide. It was, so I got suited up. The man who I would be riding with was named Juan. He was nice but didn’t speak English very well. It took a few minutes to get set up, and then we were pulled off a cliff by two guys and the wind. Juan flew along the beach, then up into the city. We were by the tops of skyscrapers. After that he took me over a park. Finally, we landed. It was AMAZING! I felt like a bird. After I landed, Juan gave me the SD card that he filmed the flight with, I gave him a fist bump, and we were on our way. Just then, Hennry drove by with some other passengers. He very quickly told us that he would come back for us. I had an ice cream bar while we waited. When he came back, he drove us to the catacombs of the Basilica and Convent of San Francisco. We got a tour and saw lots of bones. Since the catacombs are located under a church with grates in the floor, I was able to scare a woman on her way to Mass. It was very funny, and the whole tour laughed. After that Hennry drove us to the shuttle spot and we went back to the boat.

Today we got up and hopped on a shuttle. There was a mall near the drop off place. We walked there. I got an orange tie to go with my suit. Then we went out to lunch at a place called Mercado 28. I met two boys named Philip and Toby and a girl named Dharma. Toby and Philip are the sons of the head chef of the cruise ship. They will be on the cruise until my birthday. They are extremely nice and I am happy that they will be on the boat with me for a stretch. They are from the Czech Republic. Dharma, who is the daughter of Palmiro and Anyell (Angel), is from Peru. There were also some other cruise staff along: Tina from Indonesia and Joseph from India. There was also another guest from the Dominican Republic named Frank. We tried so many new foods. My favorite was ceviche. After lunch we got a taxi ride back to the mall with Frank. My mom found a nice white dress. Next, we headed to the shuttle. It was a fantastic day.

  2. Paragliding? That sounds SO fun!! And I can't believe all the different people from different places you are meeting! Wow! That all so so cool! We just learned about Peru in Social Studies, but you actually got to go there! Watch out for llamas...

  3. Paragliding sounds incredible. Glad you are so brave. I can’t guarantee I could be that brave. (And I love ceviche, too!)
    Miss you both,
