Bora Bora

Today the ship docked in Bora Bora. We had an excursion booked for today and I was totally nervous. We took a tender to shore and boarded a catamaran. The crew was very funny and they played us songs on the Ukulele and Bongos while we floated along. When we were nearing our first stop, we started seeing stingrays in the water. Once we arrived at our first stop we put on our gear and jumped in. The coral was very pretty and the fish were beautiful. We got back on the catamaran then headed to another place which didn’t have any coral. There were several other tour boats in the area. When we got in and looked down there were sharks. Lots and lots of sharks. Sharks weren’t the only things in the water. There were tons of stingrays everywhere. I was terrified. One swam directly under me and I quickly lifted my feet. When I looked back up there were two sharks right next to me so a pushed off of the bottom and swam away from them. Then a stingray bumped into me. It scared the living daylights out of me. But, that’s why they named the excursion Swim with Sharks and Rays” After a few minutes of the same routine I got used to the sting rays and sharks and enjoyed it. Finally, we got back on the catamaran and went back to shore.

After the crazy experience with the sharks we climbed back into the small boat. We then rode back to the pier while they sang and got off the boat. Unfortunately I left a snorkel and mask on the small boat which another guest let me borrow (later he said it was O.K.). Then we boarded the ship to dry off and reapply sunscreen. When we went back onto the island we asked around for bike rentals. There were no bikes around… but there were mopeds. My mom rented one for us. When the lady in charge of the rentals was telling us how to use it she was mostly talking to me. My mom asked if I could drive and she asked how old I was. My mom asked how old I had to be to drive and she just asked how old I was once again. Me and my mom answered at the same time, she said I was thirteen and I said I was sixteen. It was funny. She said I couldn’t drive. Then she changed her mind and said I could but I had to be careful. I started it up and we were off. We decided that it was better that I was driving anyway because of my motorcycle experience back home. After a few seconds of practice I was out on the road. I drove around the entire Island in about 45 minutes. We stopped at the main tourist attraction (other than snorkeling) which is a restaurant/grill called Bloody Mary’s. I had a Pina Colada (with no alcohol obviously… I had to drive home) and my mom had a Coca Cola. We then took the moped to the beach and snorkeled again. We dried off and returned the moped. We wandered through a few small shops and got a few little things. My mom got orange toilet paper lightly scented which I think is weird, I got some Monster and Doritos (my two favorite snacks) and we boarded the ship. It was a fantastic day.
